About Us
Building Tradition & Creating Memories
The Country Place is a Nonprofit Organization devoted to creating lasting memories. It all began in 1972 when Andrew’s parents, John and Jo Walt, started a Young Life camp that grew into what is now TCP Ministries. It is our mission to carry on the tradition of faith, glory to God, and quality event production, whether it is recreational retreats or a ceremony of holy matrimony, our priority is serving Him and you.

After decades of building up The Country Place, our staff is devoted to creating an ideal experience for every guest that visits our retreat center. We take pride in the details and guarantee an exceptional event for your group, no matter the occasion.

We hope that you will find The Country Place to be the perfect location for your event and we look forward to serving you! Please contact us for more information or to schedule a tour of our facilities.
Our Story
The Country Place was founded in 1972 by John and Jo Walt. John and Jo had gone to a YL camp in Colorado and wanted to create the same experience in the Memphis area that they had experienced in Colorado. They saw the need for a fun Christ centered camp for kids, that was also close to home. So, they decided to buy a thoroughbred horse farm just outside of Moscow, TN. And with the help of Grady Morris Construction and YoungLife volunteers, The Country Place was started with 5 cottages and a dining hall in the shape of a barn. Soon after starting they added the basketball court and the pool onto the property in order to continue to create an amazing atmosphere for the kids. The Country Place remained under YoungLife for 11 years, then in 1984 it was transformed into its own Nonprofit Organization with the main goal being to glorify Jesus Christ. Then from 1985-2000 many renovations were done, from building the Cedar Grove Conference Center to renovating the barn and all 5 cottages. Through all the changes made the goal of creating a kid’s camp to glorify Christ stayed the same. But In 2010 we saw the need to use our facilities to benefit Adults as well. So, thanks to the donations of John and Jo Walt and The Kemmons Wilson Family Foundation, we were able begin our Adult Ministry by building 2 Inns devoted to Adult Groups. Then in 2015 a donation was made in order to build our beautiful indoor Chapel. Since 2010 we have seen the need for Kids and Adult ministry, but now we want to grow our reach further. We are looking forward to being able to offer Adult Ministry in 2023. We are in the process of renovating our cabins in order to accommodate families as well as creating our Family Ministry programing. The goal of The Country Place has always been to glorify Christ and we want to do that in every way we can. So, now with our focus on Kids, Adult, and Family Ministry we look forward to offering the dream of John and Joe Walt to as many as possible!
